これを聴かずにアメリカ音楽を語るなかれ！米国のフォーク・ミュージックを紹介するガイド本に必ずといっていいほど登場するのが、この６枚組ボックス・セット。弊社ではこれまで通常輸入盤の形でこの作品を配給してまいりましたが、流通をさらに拡大するために、弊社の輸入盤国内流通仕様レーベルである〈サンビーニャ・インポート〉として改めて発売する運びとなりました。

元々本作はハリー・スミス（1923-1991）というマルチな才能を持った好事家が、1920〜30年代に発売されたＳＰレコードから音源を集め、1952年にスミソニアン・フォークウェイズの前身であるフォークウェイズから２ＬＰ×３セットという形で発売したアメリカ音楽のアンソロジー作品でした。これが当時から現在までの間、ボブ・ディランに代表される多くのミュージュシャンに多大なインスピレイションを与え続けてきました。そんな本作は「アメリカ音楽のバイブル」として70年近く愛され続けてきたことになります。
そして現在では1997年にフォークウェイズの後を受けたスミソニアン・フォークウェイズから再発されたＣＤセットによって脈々と受け継がれています。長い間在庫を切らしていましたが、ようやく本国で再プレスされ、安定供給できる運びとなり、今回この形でリリースすることにいたしました。
