オニパのセカンド作 “Off the Grid” は、アフリカにおけるダンス・リズムの起源の物語を、今日のクラブやフェスティバルのエレクトロニック・ダンス・ミュージックを結びつける旅の記録です。アフリカの民間伝承や神話を、ラップ、ジャズ、ヒップホップ等に結びつける音楽的な試み成果です。
アクラの市場のカセット・テープからロンドンの海賊ラジオ局、マリのブルースからＵＫジャズまで、オニパをバックアップする２人のクリエイティビティ、トム・エクセル (Nubiyan Twist) と クウェク・サッキィ (K.O.G. & the Zongo Brigade) は、ドラムの フィス・ブース、シンセの ドウェイン・キリヴィントン (別名 Wonky Logic) とともに、稀なる独創的サウンドの世界を構築しました。
“Off the Grid” はユニットとしては２作目のフルアルバムであり、Real World Records からの最初のリリースでもあり、ムーンチャイルド・サネリィ, ダヴィッド・ウォルターズ, デレ・ソシミ, テオン・クロスなど、素晴らしいコラボレーターとともに生み出された作品です。
