Yang Yan was born in Taiwan in 1951. She attended Taipei High School, and in 1969 she became the singing contest champion of Taiwan Cheng Sheng Broadcasting Company with songs such as “moonlight on the river.” By the late 70s she had become one of her country’s most famous and loved singers.
