Vocal Jazz/ World Jazz. With this album entitled Lagu Lagu (songs) vocalist Monica Akihary creates a total new esthetica. Lagu Lagu goes beyond jazz and traditional music. The album is based on field recordings that were made on the Moluccan islands (spicy islands) in 1948. Akihary is one of the best jazz vocalists of her country, The Netherlands. Magazine Heaven writes: “Akihary finds a balance by singing with several voices, that express a diversity of her soul…”. “The pieces are solemn, windblow in a beautiful way and they all have a pleasant and natural groove”. ‘The Moluccan songs on this album Lagu Lagu sounds entchanting. Akihary’s low pitch voice, the almost dancing chords: it’s like you may sit on the coutch in the mids of musicians and vocalist ‘. Carp nov.2005 ‘Akihary gives a mysterious dimension to these simple melodies …. in a playful context referring to jazz, blues …’ Saskia Törnqvist, Het Parool, December 2005. 〜 LABEL INFO
