ペルシャの伝統楽器の中で最も重要な弦楽器と言われているタールの歴史的名演を集めたアンソロジー2枚組CDアルバムです。
タールはネックの長いリュート族の弦楽器で、イラン（ペルシャ）、アルメニア、ジョージア、アゼルバイジャンの伝統音楽で使用されています。伝統音楽の曲の編成、構成等の様々な場面でタールが重要な役割を果たし、著名なタール奏者の多くはペルシャ伝統音楽のスタイルや演奏形態に大きな影響を与えてきたといわれています。タールの演奏史は、その発展によって３つの世代に別けられるようですが、本作はその全てをカヴァーしているということです。
タールの録音史の中でも最初期に録音したMirzâ ‘Abdollâh (1843-1918)、Gholâm-Hoseyn Darvish (1872-1926)などの貴重な録音（1910年前後か？）からはじまり、第２世代のAli-Naqi Vaziri (1887-1979)、Musâ Ma’Rufi (1889-1965)たちの録音、さらに第３世代の1900年代半ばごろまでの録音が収録されているので、各世代の違いもはっきり分かります。
タールの独奏を中心に、トンバックなど太鼓類などとの合奏や古い録音では、歌入りもあります。
