MM誌11年12月号輸入盤紹介で深沢美樹さんが紹介されていました。曰く「ん~、まいりました」!! というわけで、労作です。本年度複刻大賞(ワールドミュージック部門)間違いなしでしょうね?SP録音とアフリカ音楽を愛しているコレクター / 愛好家にして研究家じゃなければ編むことはできない4CDにして懇切丁寧な大部解説書(英文)だと思います。音質も素晴らしいし、CD及びCDトレイ&BOOKにおけるSPレーベルにまつわる様々なデザインも秀逸だし、珍しい写真も満載だし~選者 >ジョナサン・ワードに拍手を贈りたいと思います。スタンディング・オベイションですよ。で、その内容、1909年から1950年代の音源まで、すべてSP音源であり、LP~CD時代を通してすべて未複刻音源(ということだそうです)!そのうち3分の1ぐらいは出張録音じゃないでしょうか。ほか、コンゴやガーナ、西アフリカ、あるいは北アフリカ~エジプト、そして南部・東部アフリカ、マダガスカル、インド洋まで、地元SPレーベルの勃興期の音源が加わり全100曲です!エル・アンカやムハメド・ベン・ハマディ、EKニャメやカレンダー、ブラックビーツ・バンド、クワ・メンサー、ジャン・ボスコ・ムウェンダ、フライング・ジャズ・クィーンズ等、名の知られたアーティストも並びますが、収録曲の多くは未知の歌手 / 音楽家が並び、東西南北アフリカ全域のポピュラー音楽の萌芽を聴かせる芳醇にして新鮮な響きが全編で繰り広げられています!そして何より、つまらない曲がないところがまた凄い!アフリカ音楽ファン、あるいは前世紀前半音楽ファンの皆さま、必聴ですよ!ところでタイトル“オピカ・ペンデ”はリンガラ語で、頑張ることとか、抵抗することを意味する言葉のようです。
