スミソニアン・フォークウェイズの膨大な音源から編纂されたチャイルド・バラッド集
19世紀アメリカの文献学者フランシス・ジェームズ・チャイルドはイングランド及びスコットランドに伝わる伝承歌を収集し分類、さらにそれらが伝わったアメリカの地でどのようなヴァリエーションを生んだかに至るまでをまとめた人物。彼が記録した伝承歌＝バラッドは「チャイルド・バラッド」と呼ばれ、現在に至るまで数えきれないほどの歌い手に歌い継がれてきた。本作はアメリカの老舗レーベル、スミソニアン・フォークウェイズが制作したチャイルド・バラッド集。ピート・シーガーやレッド・ベリーらフォークウェイズ・レコードの看板歌手達やフィールド録音、90年代以降の音源も使用して、チャイルドが研究した伝承歌の数々をじっくり聴かせる。これからトラッドを深く知ろうという方から研究者まで、バラッドの定番作として広くお勧めする。（サプライヤーインフォより）
